a bookmobile for wins

i've had this on the list of projects for a while and i've had the supplies and everything ready to go but i hadn't made it yet because i wasn't exactly sure of the process. i got the idea from etsy and of course, they don't tell you how they make their products (because then you wouldn't buy them:)) so, once again, i had to wing it. yesterday i finally got up the guts to do it. above are the needed supplies-it's a pretty simple project, once you figure out how to do it.

you need: an old book you don't mind completely gutting (even though i had never read this and had no personal attachment to it, nor had ever even heard of it, the booklover in me still felt guilty and a little sad about pulling the stuffing out of it), an exacto knife, some form of glue (i used fabric glue and it worked great), and a picture as a guide of how to do it and what you want the end product to look like.

i started by using the knife to cut all the pages out of the binding-but make sure you leave the binding intact! you'll want to save those pages. i glued a small portion of the pages back into the cover for a base and then started folding pages into the center-i guessed about how many i wanted and then cut the rest off.

for those first center pages, you just glue the edges of the pages down into the binding. once you've got enough there, you'll tear out individual pages from the ones you have left and glue them into the funny bubble shapes and then glue those in between the pages that are already bubbled and glued together. is that making any sense?

the beginning stages.

slowly looking more the way i want it to...

...and even more until...

done! it took about 2 hours all together. i love the little helping hands in this picture (that REALLY wanted to squish the whole thing to his chest). i strung it with some red baker's twine and i'm planning on hanging it in a corner in winston's room. i want to make him a little reading nook, with a chair and a lamp, all cozy-like. we'll see if that happens but at least he'll have this hanging.

the inspiration.
