a stocking for wins

i'm not crazy in love with the stockings i made for jere and me a few years ago so i decided that, instead of making another one like it for wins, i'd just do something totally different. i really liked working with felt for my tree skirt so i thought i'd try that out for w's stocking. i'd seen this image of a fox on a doormat from west elm (see actual doormat below) so i drew my own version of it for the stocking.

i traced it onto brown felt and messed around with where to put it on the green felt stocking i'd cut out.

i wanted to personalize it so i wrote out winston's name in cursive on cardstock, made it bubble lettering so i could cut it out, and then traced it onto red felt and cut it out. it was a little tricky sewing the lettering on-i could basically only do one stitch at a time on my machine but it took WAY less time than it would have doing it by hand.

again, i don't know why my pictures don't always load correctly. anyone know how to correct this problem AFTER it's already loaded to blogger? i could just delete it but then if i wanted to reload it, it would reload out of order. grr.
anywho, i fiddled with the set-up till i liked the way it looked and then...

...sewed it on! it's pretty simple and fairly small but wins doesn't need a whole boatload of stuff in there anyway. since i finished it, he's been carrying it around the house which makes me happy. i sewed on a red loop to hang it with but never took a picture of it after that. oops. i'll probably have to make another one when he turns 6 or so but for now, it works.

the inspiration. i wish i'd had more reddish-brown colored felt for the fox rather than just plain brown but i guess it'll have to do.

"so I just traced this very accurate portrayal of a wolf and cut out my kid's name in cursive to perfection." I am amazed at your skillz and could never do the same in a million billion years. miss you!
